All nonfinancial personal information used to register, renew or transfer a domain is submitted to the domain registrar (OpenSRS) at the time of registration, renewal or transfer. All of the submitted information is then available with the registered domain from the OpenSRS WHOIS server and may be searched, without cost, by anybody who wants. This is not our policy. It is a requirement to register a domain and will occur no matter where you register it.
People can and do extract information from the WHOIS database and use it for marketing purposes, in spite of the WHOIS database usage policy forbidding it. You can expect to receive phone calls, faxes, junk mail (the paper kind), and spam based on the information you provide.
In short, information submitted for a domain registration is made public. Be extremely careful about what information you give.
The payment information you submit, including credit card number, expiration date, name on card, credit card billing address and zip code, is not submitted to the domain registrar, and is therefore governed by the general NPSIS privacy policy. (ie, we won't give it to anybody without your consent.)
